Sedimentary Rocks
Sedimentary rocks are formed from broken pieces of other rocks, dead plants, and dead animals. These materials are called sediment. The small pieces are squished together by heavy materials that are on top of them, and glued together by minerals.
We can tell when and where sedimentary rocks were made by looking at the materials that make them up. Sedimentary rock has layers of sediment, and you can see that in the rocks. You might be able to see the sand that makes up sandstone, or the pieces of shell and small rocks that make up conglomerate rock.
